The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) -The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) is the global leader in publicly funded research on maize and wheat and related farming systems. CIMMYT is a member of the CGIAR Consortium Sytem Organization and leads the CGIAR Research Programs on MAIZE and WHEAT. The Center receives support from national governments, foundations, development banks and other public and private agencies.
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is one of the world’s leading research organizations seeking to find solutions for hunger, malnutrition and poverty, and a co-partner in the CGIAR Research Programs on MAIZE. IITA works with partners to enhance crop quality and productivity, reduce producer and consumer risks, and generate wealth from agriculture.
National agricultural research and extension systems include publicly funded government research and extension organizations, ministries of agriculture, national agricultural research organizations in the 12 target countries, plus universities, non-governmental organizations and members of regulatory bodies in each country.
Seed companies, ranging from the “big 5” — Ethiopian Seed Enterprises, Kenya Seed Company, SeedCo, Pannar and Pioneer — to smaller, emerging seed companies, including a group of almost 50 being supported through various seed system initiatives in Africa.
