New variety to double maize yields in Africa

The East African – Saharan Africa will soon receive a new stress-tolerant seed variety that is expected to increase yields by 30-50 per cent. Scientists at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre said the improved variety is tolerant to drought, low soil fertility, heat and diseases such as lethal necrosis and pests.
